I just finished this yesterday and I’m so in love with it already… [Read More]
I collaged a couple lighters yesterday. I love collage, it’s so relaxing, yet I still feel like I’m doing something, and I’m not sure why but collaging lighters is the best.
I did both of these out of National Geographic circa 1960, volume 117. no. 2.
The big lighter says “Over weight under fed” and “Lust”. The little one says “Run away to sea.” “A quarter of a ton of baggage and booty, she is thinking of loot.”
This is what I did with my day today. It’s not done but I’m stoked on it so far, although it lights up my room a bit more than i’d like. I was originally gonna do an entire wall, but I think it might be too much, so I might make a little fort-thing around that cubby-hole thing.
Turns out a full roll of duct tape looks a lot longer on the roll…
I just finished the Secur-O-Skate, a remake of the 60’s Skee-Skate, with an added hole for a bike lock. It’s a bit different than my usual board, but I really like the thing, and it’s a lot of fun to ride once you get used to it. The original Skee-Skate was 19” x 4.5”, and this one is 5” x 20”, so I tried to stay as accurate as possible, with silver wheels to mimic the metal originals, and silver hardware to match the original.
In other news, I’m leaving for a week up to Pasadena to take a silk-screening class, amd I’m staying with my sister, so this should be fun.
I made this bracelet for my girlfriend a few days ago. Tested out my Witches Brew on the thing, and I’m pretty happy with how it came out. She’s not into wearing bright colours much like I am, but hopefully it’ll still get worn pretty often.
I should have a little painting done in the next few days, and some skateboards after that. Also, I’m taking silk-screening and sculpting summer classes at the Art Center in Pasadena pretty soon, so that should be fun.
Finished the Squid board today. I wasn’t planning on making it a complete, but my art teacher wanted to buy it off me as a graduation gift for her son, which I’m stoked about, because making this things completes is pretty much half the fun. I didn’t really like this one at all initially, but seeing as all the parts for it match so well, it’s become one of my favorites now. Also, those trucks feel so smooth, I wish I could keep them.
OJ III wheels, Independent 1/4” Risers, Hardware, and Chris Haslam Trucks, and Shake Junt Bearings. I think this was a Zero Deck originally.
Progress on the squid and another comparison shot. I’ve been so lazy with this squid, it’s annoying…
In other news, totally got reunited with an old friend, which is super rad, and totally screwed up this portfolio thing…
This is a soon-to-be squid board, after I was testing it out. I think this is one of the prettiest cuts so far, so lets hope the paint does it justice. I’m loving how the blank space looks over both sets of wheels. Makes it look super longboard-esque.
So I finally got the wheels for this guy today. It turns out they’re not making them currently, so the shop I usually go to couldn’t order me a set, and I had to buy them down at Main street, $10 over-priced. Also, they’re a bit more of a rich colour irl. In this picture they came out a sickly greenish-yellow.
Anyway, I should have more work up soon, because I’ve got a lot to do, and if anyone’s interested in purchasing this guy, he’s definitely for sale.
I’m trying to refurbish this guy, but I’m not sure into what shape. I just love how destroyed it is, it makes it quite the project. This is after I’ve done a ton of work on it to strip the paint and all that so it’s finally smooth. Any suggestions for shapes?
I designed the cover art for this year’s Gold Key Awards, as well as the insert art that will go throughout. Now that I’m done with this I don’t have anything to do at this moment, but I think I may begin a squid shaped skateboard with my free time. This was done with India Ink, and on Illustrator.
In other news, my art’s at the second half of the district gallery now, and the reception was yesterday. That went pretty well, I think.
This is what I’m currently working on, I want to ride it sooo bad when I’m done but it’s not advisable… I bought Element Mini-trucks for it today, and I’ll be getting Yellow OJ III wheels for it soon.
I’m really falling behind on everything now at this point and I’m getting sick of it… damn.
